As part of a small, passionate, and accomplished team of experts in the Legal and Compliance Department, you will provide multi-disciplinary support to the Department and the business on a variety of matters, such as operations, technology, compliance, and commercial transactions. Your day-to-day responsibilities will range from handling commercial transactions to advising site leadership on strategic initiatives. Over time, you will help the Department address emerging needs by developing new expertise in addition to your existing skills and abilities. This role will support Blue’s wholly owned subsidiary Honeybee Robotics, a division of Blue’s In-Space Systems business unit. The location will either be Longmont, CO or Altadena, CA. We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality to positively impact safe human and robotic spaceflight. Responsibilities: Draft, review, negotiate, and approve proposals, terms & conditions, purchase orders, statements of work, and related contractual documents. Perform all of the above for contracts with customers and suppliers that include civil and defense space agencies of the U.S. and other governments, as well as commercial companies providing launch services, spaceflight operations, space vehicles, and related products and services to the civil, defense, and commercial spaceflight markets. Other customers and suppliers include academic and research institutions conducting similar activities. Perform all of the above for contracts involving procurement and sale of robotic devices, spaceflight hardware, engineering services, and spaceflight operations. Develop business relationships with internal business clients to understand their goals and priorities, and advise on relevant legal contexts, issues, risks, and strategies including dispute resolution. Collaborate closely with other groups within Blue Origin, the Department, and subject matter experts on matters pertaining to international contracting, labor and employment, intellectual property, risk management, import/export, and other regulatory matters. Qualifications: Juris Doctor from an accredited U.S. college or university and membership in at least one U.S. state bar. 4 - 8 years of legal experience with a corporation, law firm, or government entity. Willingness to learn new skills and substantive legal areas to support multiple roles within the Department. Prior experience leading or coordinating sophisticated projects involving multiple team members (such as large discovery or due diligence projects). Prior experience with U.S. government contracting, including Federal Acquisition Regulations, Defense Federal Acquisition Regulations, CAS compliance, and agency-specific regulations. Ability to work efficiently and independently and communicate clearly (both verbally and in writing). Ability to react calmly and appropriately to situations and events that require a quick response or turnaround and take effective action without knowing the whole picture. Ability to earn trust, maintain productive work relationships, and provide legal advice directly to clients of every level. Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder) or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum. Desired: Work experience prior to law school or experience working on the business side of a large corporation or in federal government. Familiarity with export control regulations, including International Traffic in Arms Regulations and the Export Administration Regulations.
