Job Description
Occ Summary Perform journeyman level installation, repair and maintenance of locks,door closures, panic hardware systems and electron ic locking systems;recombinant and adjust locks, including coding, key c utting andduplication.
Work Performed Install, repair and maintain all major types of locks, door closures,and panic hardware systems including but to limited to keycard andelectromagnetic systems to conform withcurrent federal, state and localsafety and security regu lations.Assist in the installation of electronic and other special locki ngsystems for University buildings and facilities; perform complex repai rsand update records as required.Estimate time and materials required fo r repair and renovation projects;assist in planning sequence of operatio ns and determine methods to beused including but not limited to key cutt ing and duplication, adjustingor changing key combinations and recombini ng any lock within the currentsystem; update records as required.Open lo cks by use of lock picking tools, dismantling or other methods;repair lo cks by replacement of worn or broken parts or by adjustment orrecombinat ion of locks to the master / sub master system in use.Repair, maintain a nd change safe and vault combinations.Utilize key cutting machines, dril ls, saws, buffers and grinders, keygaugesand locksmith tools.Provide te chnical guidance and direction to lower level personnel.Perform other re lated duties incidental to the work described herein.The above statement sdescribe the general nature and level of work beingperformed by indivi duals assigned to this classification. Minimum Qualifications Education Work requires an educational background normally equivalent to a high school education with course work in skilled crafts or trades, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience. Possess a North Carolina State Locksmith License.
Experience Work requires knowledge of hardware and electronic locking systems OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE normally acquired through 4 years of experience in the installation, repair and maintenance of hardware and electronic locking systems.
