UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside - Presbyterian Campus is seeking a dynamic and visionary Pharmacy Manager to lead Clinical Services and serve as the Residency Program Director for our PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program. Key Responsibilities:

Operational Services:

\n
    \n
  • Design and implement operational services, including dispensing and compounded product preparation, which support the pharmacists' provision of pharmaceutical care.

  • \n
  • Schedule pharmacists to effectively cover the hours of operations of the pharmacy as well as on-call hours.

  • \n
  • Assure pharmacy is in compliance with all federal and state regulations.

  • \n
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with clinical practice standards and regulatory/accreditation requirements.

  • \n

Collaboration and Relationships:

\n
    \n
  • Maintain productive, collaborative relationships with physicians, nurses, departmental managers, and others in clinical leadership roles to achieve short and long-term goals for related programs and clinical services.

  • \n
  • Facilitate staff involvement in established departmental programs, e.g., quality improvement, patient/professional education, and staff development. Develop staff advancement opportunities and foster an environment conducive to innovation and progressive learning.

Pharmaceutical Care:

\n
    \n
  • Develop, implement, direct, and monitor the delivery of pharmaceutical care. Ensure patient/customer satisfaction and implement measures to correct perceived deficiencies in care and service.

  • \n
  • Integrate the distributive and cognitive aspects of pharmaceutical care.

  • \n
  • Ensure provision of cost-effective drug therapy through analysis of patient outcomes; validate that care is provided according to current standards of practice; support and monitor the quality improvement program.

Staff Management:

    \n
  • Assist with the recruitment, hiring, and mentoring of staff and colleagues through feedback, positive discipline, and performance evaluations. Enforce progressive corrective action appropriately.

  • \n
  • Maintain a current body of knowledge in the areas of their service with regard to drug therapy and technology. Complete all staff pharmacist competencies.

  • \n
\n

Residency Program Leadership:

\n
    \n
  • Direct and manage the PGY1 Residency Program, including recruitment, training, and mentorship of pharmacy residents and preceptors.

  • \n
  • Develop and implement residency program curriculum and assessment strategies to meet ASHP accreditation standards and resident learning needs.

  • \n
  • Foster a culture of innovation, excellence, and continuous improvement within the residency program.

  • \n
\n

Research and Development:

\n
    \n
  • Promote, support, and conduct research related to practice.

  • \n
\n

Budget and Compliance:

\n
    \n
  • Assist with the preparation and monitoring of the budget for areas of responsibility, including drug and personnel costs.

  • \n

    \n
  • Graduate of an accredited school of pharmacy.

  • \n
  • 4 years of progressive pharmacy experience, including both dispensing and consultant experience.

  • \n
  • Management experience preferred.

  • \n
\n

Role Preferences:

  • Licensure: Licensed pharmacist in Pennsylvania

  • \n
  • Education: PharmD degree from an accredited institution, completion of PGY1/PGY2 residency or minimum of five years of relevant pharmacy practice experience if no ASHP-accredited residency was completed

  • \n
  • Experience: Proven experience in clinical services leadership and residency program management, demonstrated ability to lead and mentor a team.

  • \n
\n

  • Board Certification: BPS certification in a relevant area.

  • \n
  • Advanced Education: Advanced degrees (e.g., MS, MBA, MHA) are highly valued for the additional expertise and leadership skills they bring.

  • Professional Involvement: Active involvement in professional organizations and demonstrated contribution to pharmacy practice.

  • \n
  • Matrix Organization Experience: Experience working within a matrix organization.

  • \n
  • Skills: Strong leadership and communication, ability to innovate and lead change, and a commitment to mentorship and professional development.

  • \n
  • Leadership Training: Completion of the Pharmacy Leadership Academy (DPLA) or equivalent training.

  • \n
  • Specialized Training: Postgraduate fellowship in the advanced practice area, providing specialized knowledge and skills.

  • \n
  • Certification: Leadership-related pharmacy certification recognized by the Council on Credentialing in Pharmacy (CCP), demonstrating a commitment to high standards of practice.
  • \n
