NURSE PRACTITIONER M.S./ ALLERGY CLINICAL IMMUNOLOGY, FULL TIME/ 40 HOURS, ROTATING SHIFT BWH

About This Job

  • The Allergy and Clinical Immunology Nurse Practitioner (NP) is an expert Practitioner in allergy and immunology care, executing position responsibilities that demonstrate leadership, experience, and creative approaches to management of complex patient care.
  • The NP is a key member of a team delivering care to a panel of allergy and immunology patients for which s/he has responsibility in the planning, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of care related outcomes.
  • Work Locations: Allergy and Clinical Immunology at the Foxboro Medical Specialties and Brigham Main Campus/ Hale Rheumatology, and other off-site locations, including but not limited to, 850 Boylston Street, Chestnut Hill, Brigham Medical Specialties, and Faulkner Medical Specialties.
  • The NP has responsibility for the collaborative interdisciplinary team (the team) which may include nurses, medical assistants and others who are integral to the optimal care of patients. The NP works in partnership with the team and practice leaders toward the primary goal of ensuring the effective delivery of care of patients receiving care at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, supporting the achievement of patient, departmental and organizational goals.

Principal Duties And Responsibilities

  • Patient Care Organization
  • Performs in the role of Independent Licensed Provider (ILP) and is responsible to work both independently and in collaboration with other providers to maintain a panel of patients. Primary area of responsibility is to develop and maintain an ambulatory patient panel via ambulatory clinic sessions. (Example of ambulatory clinic sessions: Part-time NP can be expected to maintain up to 4 sessions per week, full-time NP up to 8 sessions per week).
  • Assesses, plans, implements, collaborates and evaluates the needs and care of patients with acute and chronic diseases. Manifests a high level of expertise in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of the complex responses of individuals, families, or communities to actual or potential health problems related to their life limiting disease conditions.
  • Sets priorities for appropriate and efficient management of patient care that reflects evidence based practice and cost effective management of time, available human resources, supplies and equipment.
  • Incorporates the concepts of health maintenance, prevention, and promotion into daily practice through patient education and counseling.Assists patients and families in self-care management through the provision of information, tools and resources.
  • Demonstrates awareness of community resources and assists staff, patients, and families to effectively utilize them.
  • Leadership:
  • In collaboration with practice leadership, develops and leads the clinical practice, quality and safety of patient care of an interdisciplinary team which may include registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, medical assistants and others who are essential to the care delivery model.
  • Responsible for coordinating care and meeting patient care needs in conjunction with a variety of providers including; licensed independent providers acting in consultation, population managers, care managers, and others.
  • Identifies opportunities for and initiates interdisciplinary collaboration to achieve team and patient goals.
  • Leads and/or participates in departmental, hospital and/or system-level committees and task forces as a representative of the department, practice and the Department of Nursing as requested.
  • Establishes effective interpersonal relationships with other nurses, clinical departments, and interdisciplinary colleagues.
  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities as required.
  • Quality Monitoring
  • Engages in regular performance improvement activities. Uses performance and patient outcome data for continuous quality improvement. Contributes to developing structure, processes and systems to improve the care and disease management of patients.
  • Translates themes uncovered through ongoing quality monitoring and evaluation into the care model and the clinical practice of the interdisciplinary team.

  • Utilizes time and materials effectively.
  • Participates in the orientation of new staff members, students and others as appropriate. Provides input into the evaluation of other staff as appropriate.
  • Adheres to hospital and departmental policies. Recommends changes in policies and procedures.

  • Master’s in Nursing (MSN) (or) DNP (or) PhD Degree in Nursing required. Completion of a Master’s or post Masters’ degree in adult or family NP program accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC).
  • APRN license to practice as a Family Nurse Practitioner, FNP in Massachusetts required.
  • Allergy / Clinical Immunology experience required.
  • Recent pediatric experience required.
  • Direct experience as an ILP independently managing a panel of patients strongly preferred.
  • 5-10years of clinical experience in hospital or community-based practice setting – strongly preferred.
  • Experience working in a large complex health care organizations preferable.

  • Ability to function at the highest level professionally and clinically, possess excellent interpersonal skills
