Primus Aerospace is a leading manufacturing partner to aerospace, defense, and space OEMs, Primes, and Tier I suppliers. The company specializes in producing high-tolerance, complex geometry parts machined using standard and exotic metals. Primus works directly with all major aerospace manufacturers (e.g., Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman) to provide components for mission-critical civilian and defense programs.

The Buyer is responsible for purchasing raw materials, hardware, supplies, and outside processing in an aerospace & defense manufacturing environment. This role requires securing the best quality, value, and service for products and services through effective supplier management. Success in this role involves a proactive approach to daily tasks, coupled with strong communication and organizational skills.

Key Responsibilities

• Send RFQs and analyze quotes for raw materials, hardware and outside processes, with the ability to negotiate price, lead time, and expedite as needed
• Source and schedule hardware, raw materials, and outside processes to support production requirements at the most cost-effective price
• Anticipate customer needs and expedite orders when necessary
• Communicate order commitments and status updates to the project management team, including reporting on part shortages, delays, or capacity constraints
• Drive supplier performance improvements, such as reducing lead times, improving payment terms, and resolving AP issues
• Issue change orders as needed for price variance or delivery date changes
• Keep internal teams informed via email and spreadsheets about any supplier schedule changes
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal departments and build strong relationships with suppliers
• Assist and monitor RMA processes for returning materials to suppliers
• Request updated paperwork and certifications from suppliers when needed
• Run report to determine hardware, solvents, and other consumables required for production
• Produce status reports to management on a regular basis

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience buying in Aerospace or Defense environment (preferred)
• 3+ years of experience in manufacturing environment
• Strong procurement experience
• Experience purchasing raw materials including metal alloys
• DFARS purchasing experience
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints/mechanical drawings
• Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent business certification (preferred)
• Intermediate knowledge of MS Excel
• Experience with ERP or MRP systems in a supply chain environment, including purchasing, planning, and inventory control
• Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
• Organized, self-motivated, able to work well under pressure
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with all levels of the organization and with key customer contacts
• Able to lift and transport items weighing up to 40 pounds
• Able to move throughout the facility, including navigating stairs, to perform inspections of materials
