JOB SUMMARY:

Ensures that signs are constructed and maintained in compliance with Texas Uniform Traffic Control devices. Participates in planning or programs, policies or objectives for own work group and department.

Responsibilities:
  • Constructs/fabricates and erects signs in compliance with Texas Code.
  • Drives roads to inspect condition of existing road signs; replaces damaged, destroyed or disfigured signs.
  • Reports condition of roads and bridges during sign inspection.
  • Maintains current records of all signs erected and replaced; updates sign inventory.
  • Fabricates and maintains barricades.
  • Recommends and orders materials and equipment required for sign maintenance.
  • Reviews technical specifications for signs and maintains current knowledge of revision to the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
  • Recommend equipment expenditures.
  • Signs for and is held financially accountable for equipment issued.
  • May stripe roads as necessary.
  • May plan, assign, review and supervise the work of part-time/summer help or sign and carpentry crews; assists others with their duties.
  • Participates in on-call schedule.
  • Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.

Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • Six months job related experience.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills; good interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with the public and other employees;
  • Ability to follow instructions and complete assignments in a timely manner.
  • Valid Texas Commercial Drivers License or obtained within 6 months.
  • Working knowledge of the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control device.

SALARY RANGE: $15.71 - $19.64 hourly based on qualifications

CLOSING DATE: Upon filling position
