Position Overview The Warehouse & Safety Trainer role is a hands-on position whose goal is to provide employees with a positive safety culture through training. This position will assist and/or conduct the development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the company's safety training, policies, and programs. The preferred candidate for this role will provide support to the leadership team by coordinating safety training and various other pieces of training for new and existing employees as well as researching and collaborating on new and innovative ways to keep our employees safe.This role is also responsible for ensuring training programs are released and tracked to employees across the organization, assisting with OSHA logs, and collaborating with the Environmental Health and Safety Manager on presentations and policy communications.
Supervisory Responsibilities - This position has no supervisory responsibilities but will work as a support function across multiple departments.
Duties and Responsibilities - Act as a trusted safety partner for managers, supervisors, and floor-level employees.
- Develop critical safety and various other training programs across field and network operations staff.
- Partner with third-party vendors to provide training content and compliance documents for State and Federal safety guidelines (OSHA).
- Coordinate regular safety training certification for staff (frequency based on OSHA standards).
- Train new employees in the efficient use of heavy equipment including forklifts, scissor lifts, reach trucks, and other equipment as required.
- Document and track completed training, reevaluations, and audits; assist the EHS Manager with OSHA log incident reporting as needed.
- Conduct preliminary observations of employees on equipment and final audits before certifying employees.
- Assists the Warehouse Training Manager in creating or revising SOPs as needed.
- Initiate, document, and monitor corrective actions to adhere to our safety programs.
- Source and coordinate regular safety updates with staff through the development of talking content, and safety presentations monthly.
- Investigate safety incidents and work with insurers and third-party vendors when safety events occur to ensure a safety-first culture.
- Audit and identify safety and training issues and analyze possible solutions.
- Audit and inspect warehouse offices, equipment, and personnel to ensure safety compliance.
- Ensures third-party contractors and temporary staffing contractors are compliant with the company's safety guidelines.
- Spearhead training initiatives that will help develop our employees for future roles in the company.
- Work with employees to resolve safety issues and enhance working techniques to improve production, efficiency, and quality.
- Participate and conduct safety council meetings monthly with employees.
- Develop and conduct new hire onboarding and training with the Human Resources department.
Required Skills/Abilities - Experience in Crown material handling equipment is preferred.
- Demonstrates a clear understanding of adult learning as well as the ability to use a variety of learning/training concepts, methods, and principles.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Proven decision-making and organizational skills.
- Must be flexible, open-minded, and able to operate in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrates an ability to adapt training and presentations to multiple levels including teammates, leads, managers and senior leadership.
- Enjoys working in a team-based environment.
- Capable of flexing their working schedule to support training across shifts.
- Ability to work overtime, and weekends as needed to complete assignments.
Education and Experience - Minimum 2 years of experience performing safety training or equipment safety operator training.
- Comfortable presenting to small to mid-size groups, particularly in a training environment.
- OSHA 30 certification preferred; OSHA Train the Trainer certification preferred.
- Associate's Degree or higher preferred.
Physical Requirements - Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
