Job Description
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Welds together metal components of products, as specified by layout, blueprints, diagram, work order, welding procedures, or oral instructions, using electric arc welding equipment
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Read blueprints and drawings and take or read measurements to plan layout and procedures
- Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements
- Set up components for welding according to specifications (e.g., cut material with powered saws to match measurements)
- Operate angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded
- Align components using calipers, rulers, etc., and clamp pieces
- Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal, or overhead)
- Repair machinery and other components by welding pieces and filling gaps
- Test and inspect welded surfaces and structures to discover flaws
- Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety
EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Welding certification preferred
- Ability to perform ARC Welding, Brazing, and Cutting Tasks
- Knowledge in the use of cutting torch and plasma cutter/grinding
- Must be able to pass test for G3 and Rebar
- Be qualified (or able to be qualified) in GMAW or certified AWS D1.1 and/or D1.4
- Must be able to read and understand tickets and drawings
- Must be able to read roller tape
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ ADA ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs, occasionally.
- Physically able to push, pull, lift, bend, climb, kneel, twist, squat, crawl and use hands/forearms repetitively and frequently.
- Ability to move around for up to 12 hours per day.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
- Constant and continual medium to heavy manual physical labor is required for this position.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Moderate to high risk of exposure to unusual elements.
- Moderate to high risk of safety precautions.
- Moderate to high exposure to production environment.
